Nanny daily log: what to track, and a free template.

The six things every nanny daily report should cover, a free printable template, and an app that cuts the logging down to what changed.

What a nanny daily log should include

A good nanny daily report answers the questions parents ask at pickup, before they ask them:

  • Feeds and meals: times, amounts (oz or ml) and what was eaten.
  • Sleep: when each nap started and ended.
  • Nappies or potty: wet, dirty, and any accidents.
  • Medicine and temperature: what was given, when and how much.
  • Mood and activities: a line on how the day felt, plus outings or play.
  • What was different today: anything outside the usual routine. This is the line parents read first.

Our free template is a 3-page PDF in A4 and US Letter:

  1. Daily log: feeds, naps, nappies, medicine and a "what was different today?" box.
  2. Our usual day: the routine written once, so the daily log only needs the changes.
  3. Fridge info sheet: contacts, allergies, pediatrician and house rules.

Paper log or app?

Paper is easy to fill in, but parents only see it when they get home, and notebooks get lost. Most tracker apps go the other way and ask the nanny to log every bottle and every nap, which takes time away from the child.

The Handoff Sheet sits in between. The parent sets the usual day once; the nanny taps ✓ when things go to plan and writes only what changed. Parents can check from work, and get a written handoff note at pickup.

  • No account for the nanny: one join code, typed once into a phone browser.
  • Fewer "did she nap?" texts, because parents can see it for themselves.
  • Works without signal and syncs later.
  • The parent buys it, $34.99 once for the household. Nothing for the nanny to pay.

Questions

What should a nanny log every day?

Feeds and meals, sleep, nappies or potty, any medicine or temperature, mood and activities, and what was different from the usual day.

Is the nanny daily log template free?

Yes. It's a free 3-page PDF in A4 and US Letter. You enter your email on Gumroad and download it; paying is optional.

Is a paper log or an app better?

Paper is simple but stays at home. An app lets parents check during the day. The Handoff Sheet keeps logging short: the nanny notes only what changed.

Does the nanny need to pay or make an account?

No. The parent buys The Handoff Sheet and shares a join code. The nanny types it once in her phone's browser.

Can a nanny use it for more than one child?

Yes. Each child in the household has their own routine and sheet.
